What Linderhof is
The only one of Ludwig’s palaces he actually finished and lived in: a small, intensely gilded rococo villa built for one man, with a Hall of Mirrors, a dining table that rose from the kitchen below so he need not see servants, formal gardens with fountains and cascades, and the artificial Venus grotto — a painted cave with a lake and a shell boat, built for private Wagner performances (the grotto has been under long restoration; check whether it is open on your date). It is everything Neuschwanstein promises and mostly does not deliver inside, because Neuschwanstein was never finished.
Is it worth it?
Yes — and unusually so because of Neuschwanstein. Neuschwanstein’s interior tour is about 30 minutes through a handful of completed rooms; Linderhof’s is short too, but complete, and the gardens are the best half-hour of the day in good weather. Doing both gives you the finished vision and the unfinished monument. If you only have a half day, do Neuschwanstein; if you have the full day, do both.
